“patterns of memories”

The project concerns the restoration of a two-story historic house in Nafplion, developed by the concept of “patterns of memories.” The design reinterprets local morphological and cultural elements, forming a new typology aligned with contemporary living.
Based on Peter Zumthor’s Körper–Haut (body–skin) duality, the proposal is organized through the partial revelation of the structural core as a trace of memory (Körper), while on other architectural elements new layers of plaster or color are being applied ( Haut), expressing the new use and the new owner.
In detail, the ground floor preserves its introverted, stone-built character, highlighting original materials integrated into the interior design, while the upper floor reinterprets the traditional “room in a room” layout, where distinct functional living zones emerge through different colors inspired by the palette of the historic town.
